Axor Hansgrohe has been designing and manufacturing bathroom products to the retail, hotel and leisure industries for more than 100 years. It has now opened its first UK specification centre, based in Clerkenwell and we were delighted to be asked to both design and supply the lighting scheme in conjunction with the designers, i-am Associates.
This area has long been popular with the design and architecture industry and so ‘The Water Studio’ fits in perfectly as a ‘working space’ showroom for architects, designers and trade professionals. The space is less of a showroom and more of a creative sanctuary and studio for education and collaboration.
The concept is based around celebrating the joy and primal wonder of water. It integrates moving, working water as well as abstract and artistic expressions of water, with its central ‘cascade’ feature, where working showerheads and mixers are set against the backdrop of a ‘digital waterfall’ animated artwork.
Our brief when considering this project was to bring together the two two elements of ‘showroom’ and ‘working environment’, whilst complementing the vibrant, contemporary interior; we achieved this by aiming track mounted spotlights onto the merchandise, with interchangeable optics, so that we could ensure that the high quality merchandise was illuminated to its full potential, with minimal glare and shadowing.
These were also supplied with warm dimming drivers, so that products can be viewed when lit by warmer colour temperatures, similar to a home environment. We then softened the scheme by adding feature pendants over the working areas, which pulled the two areas together in perfect harmony.
